Evidently, it depends on the Hospice company. Ours changed them immediately.
That doesn't seem like it would serve an individualized care plan.....and it might cause old symptoms or problems to recur... Doesn't make sense to me, but every agency has their own policies. thanks for yoyur comment,Thanks for watching and keep us in your focus. What brand of brief and underpaid are they?
So sorry, don't know - there are so many brands and each facility has their favorite. Just remember you want "tabbed" briefs and ones that fit. Don't use the pull-up kind for a bedbound patient. Thanks. How about psuedo-bulbar affect in dementia hospice patients? Do you know of any treatments, besides complete sedation.
Care is ALWAYS the first step and then the minor medications for calming but sometimes the only way to gain control is sedation - especially for physical agitation. It is the most difficult symptom to control but there are new meds out there that are really helpful - Rivastigmine patch that goes into the skin, Haloperidol "liquid needles" - a compounding liquid version that is absorbed through the skin - these for patients whom you can't get close to or are unwilling /unable to take oral medications.
Nurses, cnas, nursing home workers, caregivers.... all angels of God.
Isn't it wonderful that we all find the niche that works for us? I'm thankful for everyone out there doing their own job and contributing. Thanks for watching and keep us in your focus. Years ago i was in a coma for a few weeks, my muscles atrophied and i had to wear briefs for some months. The facility i was in had freezing cold AC. I can tell you that while getting changed was a bit demeaning it was nothing compared to being wet and cold. It is miserable way to wake up. Thank goodness that my goal was moving towards independence. 2009 was a very humbling year
How wonderful you recovered! Best wishes! And it is so important for a brief to be checked every 2-3 hours for a needed change. Thanks for watching and keep us in your focus. Is this something that is common for someone to choose to do?
No, not common, but is used by people who want to die quickly but want to do it in an organic / natural way - not by using, MAID (medical aid in dying) Thanks for watching and keep us in your focus. You girls are amazing. My Mum was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and vascular dementia 18 months ago. It has spread to her bones and we found out 3 weeks ago it has spread to her liver. They have given her 2 weeks to 2 months to live. When she moved into our house she could walk, now she is bedridden. This video has just made my life so much easier. Mum didn't want to go into a nursing home and as she had such little time, we wanted her around family and loved ones. It is so emotional but we are getting there. The worst thing is her lack of knowing what's going on, she doesn't understand cancer. We are telling her she is getting better everyday and just making her happy.
Thank you and PLEASE get our booklet so you and your mom can enjoy as many moments as possible without disocomfort. Your mom is lucky to have your loving care. @@TheHospiceCarePlan my mother in law has mental issues and physical. She’s on hospice. They don’t come that much at all. She has fallen twice since yesterday and is hollering for a hospital (she’s not injured. She didn’t poop fall. My husband saw her kind of slither down from his bed. Anyway shes saying quite dramatically “I want to die “ it’s so hard her working against us and she is majorly !
@@TheHospiceCarePlan oh ps she wanted on hospice and her Dr put her there. Corded artery that she refuses to have surgery on and she just can’t walk or anything anymore. She refused to use the bedside potty mainly because that won’t give her a chance to fall down and get extra attention so she wants to go to the other toilet where she can fall and I’m not kidding about this I Wish I were

Family caregivers are also opioid naive in many ways, not just taking it. I am struggling with the decision to give my mom with later stage dementia the short acting morphine, preconceived idea it’s for “the final” hours only and can’t wrap my head around that maybe it would help some back pain I thinks she’s having (because she can’t verbalize her pain exactly) as she is so stiff and has lost weight that the spine bones stick out somewhat.
You are having a very healthy respect for the medication and in our culture today, opiods have many negative comments out there but for someone who has pain or shortness of breath - acute or chronic - they are the path to relief which allows life attention to be on the joy of living and connection. Even a tiny dose can offer improvement and is NOT dangerous. Try a dose and sit with you mom for 30 minutes. I always tell my families and patients... the worst thing that can happen is that they feel good enough to forget about the pain - or even just take a painfree nap. Please ask you team. Patients who can't speak or identify pain are common - trust your gut. Yopu know your mom - if she looks uncomfortable - moans, groans, grimaces etc - believe it! Please get out booklet! My question is, what if the patient cannot move at all? Atleast he could move. My question again is, what if the patient cannot move?
The patient will not be able to be gotten out of bed - or a hoyer lift will need to be used. We have a video coming up just about this. Sometimes a patient becomes bedbound.... Good instruction video, but lift the bed up for yourself, you work with a bended back! Relax and take time for your client. From 00:52 your could save your spine from 3 minutes of endurance.

Not true with Halifax Hospice in Daytona Beach. They refused to pay for my lo thyroid medication and said we would have to pay out of pocket for it. They only wanted to give her Ativan. They said she was actively dying. Don’t feed her even though she was hungry. That was back in Oct 2023. We asked them to leave and she’s alive and well today.
Sorry but you misunderstood what I said... Hospice pays for every medication that is related to the ADMITTING TERMINAL DIAGNOSIS and every medication used for COMFORT. Often times patients are taking medications for other diseases that are not related to causing or contributing to the terminal condition. Medicare doesn't pay for those meds and they are generally obtained exactly the way they were prior to hospice. Thanks for your comment - I will do another video to clarify that. and....Thanks for watching and keep us in your focus. After washing front, I would change my gloves. Great video!
You could and that would be > than standard practive. The entire groin has been populated by bacteria but the uretra should be clean - urine is sterile. Being from out of State..from two News sources said a Patient is allowed to take the medication cross the State border to their own home state and ingest the medicine in the comfort of their own home when it's needed. Is this correct? I Hope so! ❤️

What happens if you lose grip and that person starts to slip and they fall? SHAME ON YOU for not using a gate belt! Your nurses for crying out loud! A gate belt gives you a good grip that you’re not going to drop the patient! That’s patient care 101! Please remove this video and redo it with the gate belt for the sake of all the people that are going to get hurt or their family members!
